Great Tropical Jazz Party History

The Great Tropical Jazz Party is an annual jazz festival on Magnetic Island.  With the first Party held in 1997, it has grown in stature each year as the word spreads about this unique, fun, music festival held beneath the palms on a tropical island on the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.

Over the past eighteen years some amazingly talented musicians have descended on our tropical North Queensland Island for our a truly unique festival. Acclaimed musicians have traveled from far and wide to participate party with us - many coming back time and again. Many also take the opportunity for their families to accompany them, combining a tropical holiday in sunny Queensland while mingling and jamming with their peers.

"The accommodation, the people, the climate, the food, the nature. It was perfect"

European Jazz Kings

"The spirit and hospitality is overwhelming and a great sense of music community where no stylistic barriers occur"

John Mackey, ANU School of Music; Wanderlust

Jazz By the Lagoon

Jazz By the Lagoon was, for may years the annual fund raiser, traditionally held in May each year on Magnetic Island and hosted by Gary and Zanita Davies. Over many fun filled years, the laggon at Gary and Zanita's private property was the venue for locals to get together, raising funds for annual Great Tropical Jazz Party. Regrettably from 2009 onwards, this event will no longer be held.
